Let's Get Shallow

I'm stealing from everybody these days, but since Darlene does it so well... who thinks I should get highlights? No, really, I mean it. I already went with the drastic change in March when I cut off two years' worth of hair. It's grown out a bit by now, obviously, and I like the length it is, about at my shoulders. I need better pictures, after I've spent an hour blowing it out, but it'd be stupid to get them just so I could put them on the Internet. After all, everyone else knows what I look like.

The layers are driving me crazy, though, because the front pieces aren't long enough to make it into the ponytail, I have to do two when I'm at PT or something. Which only serves to make me look even more like a twelve-year-old. So the long-range plan is to get it cut off to one length, and then maintain it as is, maybe a little longer.

That's a few months off though, since I want to give the front time to be long enough for a ponytail. I'm notorious for taking forever to make decisions about my hair (trust me, the one spur-of-the-moment haircut I ever got was not a pretty picture). And after all, if you're going to take two years to grow your hair for Locks of Love- twice- you have to be patient. So let the discussion begin. As I said, I'm a chicken. I've never done anything more than a semipermanent, although I did look good as a redhead for a month. I don't want a perm, but other than that- red? blond? Ideas to add life to my what-color-is-this-hair?

I don't think I've ever been the first to comment on your blog, Nettie!

Go for it! Highlights are fun and they add depth to your hair.

Yah! Go for it. I took the blonde plunge, which was the wildest thing I ever did.

I just went back to brunette.

Get the highlights, they are a big improvement to any hair. In fact get them one by one so you can post pictures everyday as we see the new do developing. It will give you at least a month of posts. When it's all said and done, you'll be looking in the mirror at one hot blogger. Do it!

I already know what I'm going to say. "Wow you look so good! I think you should use that as your profile picture."

Do what makes you happy. :)Ask a beautician for advice. Shouldn't they know?

I can never summon the courage to do something dramatic with my hair. I was SO CLOSE to getting my hair cut, layered, and highlighted....and I chickened out. We need to start a club. "Hi, my name is Jen, and I'm a haircut-aphobic." then we can all recite an affirmation together. What do you think?

I don't know. I like red on you. But if you have to change, how about green?

well, it's hard to tell from your display pic how your hair, really, really looks. one of my girlfriends gets what we refer to as "party highlights" there's bit of copper, gold, silver, purple mixed in the highlights. it just brings some fun into your hair. there's not enough to overwhelm, but it's really neat when you catch that sparkle of gold or silver, or even purple. not what you normally expect to see.

Nettie, I've got dark hair just like you. Don't go too light, keep it kind of dark but something that will blend well. If you go too light, it really shows when it grows out. The hair dresser I go to will take a "model" when she is teaching a new beautician in her shop. It only costs five dollars and I get a professional job done. If you do it yourself, Yeks I can't even imagine that. I am too unskilled in that area.
Good luck girl, whatever you decide.

Rule of thumb is that you go lighter in the winter months-so I say go for it!

hmm...

dont go completely blonde

maybe even add something a little bit darker like a reddish chestnut...

some thicker highlights and lowlights too

that would be even more cute then you already are :)

now you tell me... what shall I do with my hair for homecoming??

Red.

Final answer. Don't need no lifeline, call no friend, don't poll any audience.

Red.

I have spoken.

Kind of a darker, subtle red, though. OK?

I am famous for making spur of the moment decisions with regards to my hair. I leave the house with blond hair come home a red head, I leave the house with long hair come home with short hair. I have so much fun just doing something drastic and shocking everyone. When I was seventeen, I cut my waist length hair off over my ears short. I shocked the heck out of everyone. People didn't even recognize me!

I have done all the colors available as well as all lengths and styles. It's fun to mess around with it. My only caveat is that you don't ruin your hair by overstyling. Otherwise...have fun...and take pics for safekeeing... then when you say "When I had purple hair..." and you can show them.

Your hair color looks good, so please don't dye it. Plus those chemicals can't be the best for your hair.

Why fiddle with something that works.

Do whatever makes YOU feel good.

My hair was to my waist for 40 years thick and full, and I slowing took 4-5 inches off at a time, but it grows so fast. I finally made it to my shoulders and now it is just below.... a couple inches...time to go back for a cut and cover my gray roots.

I have a pic on my Aug 22 post of how long my hair always was, but I like it now as I am much older shorter for many reasons...plus I finally too got the nerve for highlights. (smiling)

You have to try things sometimes to see if you like it, and sometimes you are surprised what a new look can do. (smiling)
