Meet the Spambots
Spambots.
Evil spambots.
They are the en-e-my.
From the town of nowhere,
they don't deserve a place by me.
Let's all think of something to do
so the curs-ed spambots can't get through.
When you see the spambots,
they are really really evil,
spawn of the dee-vil,
let's kill off all the bots!

Even the robot from "Lost in Space"?
There's a rhythm to these things.
But apparently neither rhyme nor reason...
what is going on with all the spambots? i can't believe some of the stuff they leave.
At the risk of sounding naive... What exactly is a Spambot?
I'm concerned you might become a target. It seems my nephew Paul at acespace has become one and spam is on every post now. I heard one girl say that she had hundreds overnight and had to turn them off for a while. Each comment they leave is one link to their site, increasing their link popularity and position on Google.
Our link popularity is good because of all the comments that we have left, therefore when I wrote about Paul the other night, I was number 2 on some search engines for "Bo Bice" within only 12 hours.
Just a little knowledge I want to share because finally I know something, yay!
Here is my game plan. We copy your html, then switch to haloscan for only a short while, then replace the old html. It might work, that's what I would do but only if it gets out of hand.
Hey, my comment was longer than your post!
I'm back because this interests me tonight. And maybe you don't even care about it as much as I do, but this spam thing bugs me. If spam gets out of hand for all of us, we would have to block anonymous comments, but set up an accout called NettiesVisitors, Password Nettie or something and leave a note on the bottom saying if you are a visitor, please sign in as... because these spambots are anonymous only. It's seems increasingly bad lately and so I'm concerned and mad.
To answer Marla's question:
Spambot is a term describing automated software that roams around the blogosphere leaving comments on posts; the comments always have links in them to the spammer's website. As Darlene noted, it's an attempt to raise the spammer's website's ranking on Google (which is based on number of links to the pages). So of it is pretty vile and disgusting. For example, the other day, when I got a link from Michelle Malkin (not bragging here), I decided to trackback to her post containing that link. When I opened the trackback page for her post, there were literally dozens of obviously spam trackbacks (similar to comments), all of them pornographic in their language--and clearly anti-Christian, to boot.
Down with the spybots!!!!!!
Yeah, them too.
i've actually seen alot of spam this past week or so, i'm glad i switched (hats off to darlene for her advice to me at that time too).
oh yeah, hi nettie!
I once aspired to be a spambot, but the repetitive tedium drove me away.
Hey, you've just won...

Alice,
It's a wonderland if you drink the right stuff. :) You can grow taller, shorter, thinner, happier... ;)
I'm in agreement. Off with their heads!
Got it. Thanks, Jeff. I got one of those comments a while back, but it was with a phone number and not a link. How lame.
Really, Marla. I mean, who uses the phone anymore?
You have a great post here, for all your template needs, visit us ~ Got Spam?
Thus far, I am happlily spambot free.
You can't do it with blogger but in Wordpress you can set it to send any comments that contain a link for moderation. That way, you, the blogger, then has the final decision whether you want to put approve it or not. I have also set mine to moderate anyone who has not commented before. It is a bit of a pin, especially when friends leave me bona fide links or whatever, but at least it stops the little blighters!!!
You can also then remove them en masse - but I know this does not help anyone on blogger...
Just my five penneth worth or you would say 5 cents worth!!!!!!!
I am all for the extermination of the bots :)

Hey, somebody spammed your site: Neal may take a leak on it...
Ok, so now that my brain is accompanying me at the computer... I actually meant "Down with the spambots!", but since I had just finished removing the spyware crap on my computer at home it came out "spybots"... either way, they're quite obnoxious!
