Goodness Gaseous

Well, boys and girls, we knew it was coming. But it's a freaking mob scene out there. By the mall today a little after two, gas was at $2.89 per gallon. In that area, it's usually a good ten cents above the cheaper parts of town. But by 5:20, barely three hours later, any place with that price had already been cleaned out by the mobs who then turned to the stations with $2.99.

I was naturally alarmed by this, so I decided to top Harvey off, even though I'd filled him on Sunday. Two depleted gas stations, three mob scenes, 29 dollars, and a quarter of a tank later, we hit full capacity. If you can get to a gas station, most especially if you're in the South, I'd urge you to do it now. But make sure you have something to entertain yourself while you sit in line. Don't wait, cause it's only going to get worse. Brave it, people, you'll thank yourselves later.

Of course, the underlying cause of this mess is Katrina. Please keep praying for her victims- I can't imagine the chaos there- for their homes, heartbreak, and health. And donate to the Red Cross if you can. God be with Louisiana and Mississippi and Alabama.

I'm truly surprised that it took until today for the prices to skyrocket. It's about $2.94 here now; when I filled up on Sunday evening, it was $2.43.

For a more complete picture on why prices are so high--yet, truthfully, in a historical perspective, aren't really that high--see Walter E. Williams "Gasoline Prices".

It CAN and WILL get worse.

I went goet gas tonight and there was a line a block long at the station. I could not figure it out, but wasn't about to sit in that line. I went to another gas station.

They were out of gas.

So was the next, and the next.

I came on home.

It is going to get worse.

Here in my part of Canada, the gas went up today for two reasons. One is from Katrina, and the other is the fact that we will be swamped with people for the Rolling Stones concert (85,000 people going to be there). My brother and his fiance said they were putting the price up to $1.30 per litre. That works out to about $5.20 a gallon (in Canadian funds). That is simply crazy!!

BTW...to convert from litre to gallon you take the price of per litre and multiply it by 4 and that gives you the approximate cost per gallon.

I filled up last Monday afternoon and paid, $ 2.49 a gallon. Today my husband filled his truck and paid $ 2.84 for gas at Wal Mart. I know it is higher in other parts of town and I am afraid of what it will be tomorrow. 25% of our gas comes from the Gulf coast. There are 8 refiners in Lousiana and Mississippi that are out of commission because of the Hurricane. What a mess this is going to be. Do you have a bike?

Nettie! I had a dream about you last night. I dreamed that you and I met...you were working at Publix and I recognized you from the picture you have up here, so I went up to you and said "hey Nettie!" and you were freaked out because you didn't know who I was, but then you figured it out and all was well. Isn't that nuts?? I have VERY bizarre dreams sometimes. So then I dreamt that, and then checked my blog this morning, and there was your comment! lol! I must have known you were coming. (You didn't quit BBW, did you, and switch to Publix?) LOL!

Right, it's been one devastating hurricane. Let's all pray for for the homeless and the ones who lost their near and dear ones.

Man, I cannot believe how high has is in SC. We're paying $3.09/gallon. But I'm in CA. Our average income in the Bay Area is much higher - therefore our cost of living is much higher. It doesn't seem right that gas out there is only SLIGHTLY less than here.

I am glued to the TV about all that's going on in MS. I am glad you're alright, Nettie.

It's amazing how I keep reading the oil companies continue to make record profits.

Hmmmmm...

Amazing how that happens when you have the people over a barrel so to speak...nyuk nyuk.

On the other hand, I'm not a cryer, but I let loose when I saw the horrible devastation that has occurred. We can only put our faith in God and pray for his healing.

The formula you're feeding that baby is definitely getting pricey. Have you ever thought of breast feeding?

Police Officer: "Young lady, why are you kneeling, topless, beside your car's rear fender?"

Nettie: "I'm just filling up Harvey's gas tank, sir."

Police Officer: "Who's Harvey?"

Nettie: "I'm glad you asked..."

$2.89/gal and a 20 minute wait here in Central Florida. Hubby has started looking for a job closer to home. He drives about 45 miles one way now and it's just getting too pricey!

If Harvey starts smiling, it's probably just because he's a little gassy. Stay off the cabbage for a while.
