I Need Some New Habits
I suffer from the inability to sit still. I can't seem to think straight unless I'm in motion. Some part of me always has to be moving. I try to be inconspicuous, but it seems to lead to some...peculiarities.
I play with my hair, for one. I can't come up with a reason why this is really bad, except that I look stupid. WhenI had a ponytail it wasn't so bad, but now that I actually do something with my hair I don't need to mess it up. So I'm trying to stop. It's not really working.
Okay, I need something else to do with my hands. So I put a bottle of water in 'em. Good idea in theory, but not when I unthinkingly chug three 32-ouncers in as many hours. Next.
Maybe I just need to look at it a different way. All the fidgeting burns calories, right? I have to work off all those Oreos somehow. Yeah, that's it. That's why I can't sit in a chair without bouncing up and down, why I have to run around after I've been sitting for more than an hour. I'm not nuts. It's all part of the master plan...

sounds like you need to burn off something all right;)
I smoke cigars. It works for me.
There was a study that said that people who constantly fidget do burn a significantly greater amount of calories than those who don't
Don't ask me; I have the same issue. But mine is more like that toddler that sits on the couch and bounces his head off and on the back of couch in an effort to just stay awake. If I stop moving, I fall asleep.
I need to be chewing or swallowing all the time, that's my problem. Flavoured water has been the miracle drug.
Maybe you're hyper?
Hey, just keep on drinking that water at the same rate (32 ounces every hour). Your kidneys will be kept very, very busy - so you won't be worrying about keeping your hands busy!
You could always take up knitting and/or crocheting...
"I can't seem to think straight unless I'm in motion."
Does tht mean that if you think crooked you'll slow down?
if you're planning on learning to knit or crochet, keep me in mind, cuz i need to learn how to do either so that i can knit a baby blanket for my grandchildren, if and when...
Seems it's in your system to lose weight and you unconsciously get conscious about doing something about it which is as inadvertent as you not sitting without bouncing up and down ! Phew, that was some observation :D, and a long one too :D
Those commercials for "restless leg syndrome" crack me up. Maybe you have that. I know I do if I drink any amount of caffeine! If you listen to the possible side effects of whatever drug they are selling for "RLS", you're better off just bouncing along. Anything you took to calm you down would probably only fog up your world. And let's face it: a world with a a foggy Nettie would be a much less fun place.
Hiya Nettie!
I'm the same way. I was even worse when I was a smoker. Anytime I was nervous- or in a social setting- I would light up. Thankfully, I quit seven years ago and moved on to bigger and better things------alcohol. Don't be like me! hehe... but yeah, if I am in a social setting at a bar or restaurant, I slug down my beer a bit too much sometimes.
Another bad thing is- picking at my cuticles when I am in an uncomfortable situation.
It's normal, everyone has something they do to ease their uneasiness.
:)
I am a total fidgeter too.
(Hence all the computer time typing.)
It does burn calories!
:) Alice - off on another adventure. See you soon. My evil twin has assumed command of the blog.
I'll drink to that ;P
I wish i had your energy! I could sit and sit and sit. You should take up Knitting. I bet you could knit a scarf all the way to to me in a matter of days!
I've got the hair habit too...I have been playing with my hair all my life. Once my mom told me a story about a guy who shot and killed a woman because the way she played with her hair all time bothered him. It didn't stop me.
I have a habit of making completely self-referential comments on blogs.
See?
Nettie,
Am I imagining things or did you change your profile? I thought you said you walked around singing Christmas songs all the time. (was that someone else...if so, sorry...I've lost some brain cells along the way). Thanks for commenting on my REAL blog! (which one?) :~)
Oh, how familiar. That sounds like me at work. I have to get up from my chair every 20 minutes or so and do something, and I have to keep my hands busy while I'm at the desk whether that means typing or doodling or whatever. When I'm at home I crochet. I've already done one whole blanket and have started another, and have made numerous scarves. I am thus now also addicted to scarves.
